As an infant, my first visual experience was the spectrum created from the sunlight coming through a tiny window above my crib. The room became alive with the refracted light, creating colorful pathways, all overlapping and moving with the outdoor winds and elements. I was engulfed in a wondrous world swirling with color and geometric forms. It was this ritual of unseen mystique that would compel me to recreate this visual dance. In the late 80’s, I studied psychology with the idea of becoming a teacher or therapist. I felt the need to explore human emotions. I needed to express myself and wanted to engage other in such exploration. It was a journey that led me to use color to depict the hues of emotions and thoughts. In the early 90’s, I enrolled at the John Herron School of Art in Indianapolis, I spent several years learning everything I could about art. I explored all arenas and worked with a variety of materials. I received BFA with an emphasis on photography, painting and design. My interest into textiles and mix ed media led me to pursue a career in interior design. In the late 90’s, I began exploring my interest in textiles and mixed media. Combining the use of textiles has had a profound effect on my interpretations and use of materials. I have found the process of collecting materials and recreating imagery, both a spiritual journey as well as a useful tool on the path to my own spiritual healing. The ability to create this healing has given me a greater sense of direction and inspiration. My work as an artist has been an emotional “still” of memories, hope, dreams and aspirations.
